Second Life capstone project earns award for instruction designer...

So excited that our second life professional development project has earned
top recognition among fellow educational technology students at Northern
Arizona University.

Along with one other graduate student, I have been chosen educational
technologist of the year. I couldn't have done it without the enthusiastic
participation of so many educators who have taken part in my virtual
learning environment creation.

Thank you one and all!

Enjoying a field trip to the Middle Passage Sim...

Amazing immersive experience of what it was like to be captured and
enslaved and shipped to America in the 17th and 18th centuries. Wow!

Dallas really understands the technology and is an accomplished educator
with a nice personal touch. I was easily able to transfer my learning to my
own Moodle.

Today was an interesting lesson. I had a little frustration at first as I
tried to connect my moodle to the sloodle set, but once I was able to
figure out the process things became easy. The second time around when I
came back and created my activity I was able to move much more quickly
through the notecard and activation process. This was pretty cool to be
able to master this skill. I am very excited for what is in store for the
remaining two lessons. Lots of fun!

Here is my picture. It was a difficult lesson initially because I didn't get
the notecard. Once I had the notecard things fell into place and I completed
the two lessons. Can't wait for the next lesson.

It was good to know a bit about Sloodle's affordances (i.e. Lesson 1) before
studying the mechanics of setting it up (i.e. Lesson 3). The instructions in
the notecard were easy to follow. I look forward to linking more activites.
Then I will bring my ALT in-world to test them.

Great practical lesson to get the concepts of linking SLoodle tools to
Moodle. Wonderful step by step instructions on the notecard. Good tutorial.
Easier as I already know Moodle.

This is a test post from flickr, a fancy photo sharing thing.

We have to link this classroom blog to the Flickr account so snapshots taken in Second Life get posted automatically here.

Imagine having students report on various activities in SL and blogging about them in a centralized repository to share with family and friends.

Great portfolio collateral for evaluation and assessment of learning, no?

Welcome to the Education in Virtual Learning Environments project blog

Students working in our Moodle based research project at http://uniques.com/nau will use the corresponding Second Life classroom site for NAU to link their virtual Avatars with the real life (RL) person to explore learning strategies in virtual worlds and how they differ from and/or augment genuine learning today and in the future.
